Titanic
One of the biggest maritime disasters in history occured
this month almost 100 years ago when the RMS Titanic
sank in the chilly north Atlantic waters sending more
than 1500 passengers and crew to their deaths. The largeness
of the ship, the claims of unsinkability, the rich and
the poor aboard, all have given this event a special
place in books, movies, and in the minds of many over
the years.
Titanic's maiden voyage was marked with disaster from
the very beginning. She left Southampton, England on
April 10, 1912 at noon. In this chart, our attention
is immediately drawn to an old-age, thus very weak,
Sun, placed in the watery sign Pisces and caught in
the deadly and stationary Rahu-Ketu axis. The main period
(mahadasha) is also that of the Sun with weak Mercury
ruling the subperiod (bhukti).
In the D8 Ashtamsha divisional chart signifying longevity,
the Sun, who is ruler, is ominously placed in the 8th
house of tragedy with Rahu and Ketu. Things could not
be more grim based on these initial observations.
At 11:40pm on April 14, only four and a half days after
setting sail, the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank
less than three hours later. April 14 was the first
day of the Ketu subperiod. Ketu signifies tragic happenings
and we've already seen the groundwork laid for this
unfortunate event.
