Another 3 Weeks

In another three weeks, I'll be flying the friendly skies. What have I forgotten? I've got my visa. I've had all my shots, purchased the appropriate power converters and adapters. Reviewed the travel guides. I'm sure there is something I am forgetting. Mercury IS retrograde (until March 25). Oh well, c'est tout pour maintenant!

Eleven Days and Counting

I have to remind myself sometimes why I am taking this trip. It is to enhance my Systems Approach Vedic astrology skills and increase my contacts in the community. It is an honor for me to visit the land of jyotish (science of light) where astrology has been studied, practiced, and taken very seriously for thousands of years. Of course, it is easy to lose sight of these goals when beginning to doubt the reason for such an adventure of epic porportions.
Yeah, there is also the element of curiosity...what are these other lands and people like? And relaxation. I've endured some stressful planetary conditions lately and need a break. So, that's why I go and I will return a better person for it...

Stay Tuned!

OK, this is the last post before I fly away into the East. The bags are packed and I will carry you all in my heart (at least they don't count THAT as luggage). A week ago, I was asked by the Professor if I was going to present a paper and I said that I hadn't planned to, and that I could put together something. But alas, he told me not to worry, and instead bring charts and questions. That I will do.

I will bring a CD audio message from David Hawthorne, President of the International Institute of Predictive Astrology. He told me that he anticipates another U.S. conference this Fall. Yipppeee! I just can't get enough of this stuff.
At this point, I'll close, but not without a HUGE amount of gratitude and love to my lovely wife and two beautiful daughters for letting me go to pursue this dream. I hope to come back with many insights, new friends, fond memories, and of course, souvenirs!
Stay tuned to these pages as I log in from overseas and keep the notes alive with all the adventures. Please chime in with your comments. It would really be nice to hear from you...and...thanks for coming along with me!!!

Didn't sleep well through the night. Got going sometime after 4am. Drove to work to get spare PDA battery. Airport shuttle on time at 6:30am. Made it to the gate with several hours to spare.
I don't like Newark airport. Signs are confusing. It took awhile to find my connecting flight. Then, we were delayed an hour. I'm glad I found a flight that gave me plenty of breathing room in Paris before connecting to Delhi.

Charles deGaulle airport is most crowded and confusing. First, we disembarked on the tarmac and rode to the terminal in a shuttle bus. That took awhile. Then I went through customs and that took awhile. I picked up my luggage and waited to board yet another bus to Terminal 1 where I would catch a Lufthansa flight to Frankfort. The security lady gave me a hard time about my wireless keyboard and wanted to know if I had a "pen" for my PDA. In short, I'm awfully glad I gave myself 4 hours to change planes in Paris.

The flight from Paris to Frankfurt was short (1 hr) and sweet. I had the entire row to myself because the plane was hardly occupied. Relieved, I relaxed until the next adventure.

Frankfurt's airport was clean and sparse. I was surprised to see bicyclists wheeling down the concourse. OK, I thought to myself, this will be "cake" from this point on. Wrong!

After walking down the long corridor to the wrong gate, I double backed, went through customs, and was horrified to see a HUGE crowd at the gate to my flight to Delhi. I was warned by the ticket agent in Paris that for this flight I was actually booked as a standby because, apparently, using your Mileage Plus miles to book a ticket makes you a second class citizen. Oh well, I resigned myself to standing in yet another long line to await my fate. Meanwhile, in my head, I was running the scenario of contacting Professor Choudhry in India in case I was rebooked. As it turned out, I was booked onto the flight in the very last row of a jumbo 747. The flight was absolutely full. But everyone seemed to be in good spirits. I talked briefly to an Indian business man next to me who said that the Indian economy increased by 8% and that more and more Indians are traveling. This particular flight, as well as several others to various parts of India are booked to capacity daily.

I sat next two to German young ladies traveling to India for the first time. They were obviously very excited. But the one lady just didn't seem to understand the nature of the conference I told her I was attending. There must have been a convention on the plane because every so often throngs of people would get up and talk with people in other seats. I was glad to have an aisle seat because the flight was 7.5 hours long and it helped to "move about the cabin."

I watched a fairly funny movie starring Samuel L. Jackson and Eugene Levy in "The Man." In as much as I tried, I did not get much sleep. In fact, I catnapped here and there for the entire trip and didn't really get a good sleep. I was taking "No Jet Lag" a homeopathic remedy that many travelers had raved about. I also used Thought Field Therapy to tap myself for jet lag.

Next: Arrival in India!
