Glimpses of the International Conference
on the Systems Approach
at Gurgaon, on Apr 8th & 9th, 2006
Posted to the SATVA101 Listserv on April 13, 2006
Dear Prof.Choudhry & the circle of SA Astrologers,
Namasthe. I was at the SA Intl Conf in Gurgaon over
the last weekend and thought it would be good to share
some of my blessings with fellow SA Astrologers, who
for various reasons have been unable to attend this
Conf in person. Now, man is intimidated by numbers and
unconsciously equates success with bigger numbers! You
could even say that being in the grip of maya, quantity
always impresses us rather than quality. The SA Conf
has been unlike many of the modern conferences and I
thought it will be a worthwhile lesson for us all, to
do some stock-taking of its virtues, now that we have
been through it fully.
#1. Small was beautiful : We were two
among 22 participants and were able to breathe very
freely as the air was not heavy with the weight of an
overt or covert academic hierarchy. The smallness of
the numbers turned out to be a tremendous blessing,
in that no one was 'lost & drowned' in a sea of
anonymity, as happens invariably in large gatherings-
except in those happy situations when a close circle
of old-friends or family bestows upon us the warmth
of an
emotional cover. Whether a foreigner or an Indian, everyone
must have definitely felt very secure at this SA Conf.
Serene Setting: Here in Club South, you felt
as though you were in a modern European retreat center,
but with the serene atmosphere of an establishment in
the 18th Century! The Conf verandah as well as restaurant
were overlooking the pool & the lovely lawns &
Prof. Choudhry could not have chosen a more serene setting
for 'propelling the wheels of learning' of the Systems
Approach.
Well-cared for Western SA Astrologers: There
were three American delegates and SA Astrologers with
us; but, neither they, nor the Indian delegates felt
that participants belonged to different cultures. Dr.
Shayn Smith, President of the IIPA Chapter in Colorado;
Dr. Jonathan Miller, President of the IIPA Chapter in
California and Ms. Sloane Johnson, mixed freely with
the Indian delegates and this was also reciprocated
and the only difficulty for the American delegates could
have been the heat of Delhi, as that was just beginning
its peak period. Prof. Choudhry's, Smt.Kiranji's and
Sri Rajeshji's warm but unobtrusive hospitality- as
I could see- put our American SA Astrologers completely
at ease.
#2. An atmosphere of learning: With the
smallness of numbers giving us the comfort & 'family
cohesion'; the Conf had already begun on the 7th Apr
itself; when Prof. Choudhry had begun talking to Dr.
Shayn Smith in the lounge of the club! The Conf had
a fluidic quality to it, for it was the creation of
Prof. Choudhry whose attitude to life was such that,
life is best enjoyed & savoured only when one flows
with the movement of life, knowing that this is how
the
rhythms of God flow. The 'family atmosphere' created
a very welcome feeling and no participant refrained
from the joy of joining in the discussions. The friendliness
of the atmosphere was evident to even newcomers like
my wife & myself and it became an enjoyable 'Indian
Conf ' when Prof. Choudhry's family joined the Conf,
in a spirit of warm support & sharing.
#3. Mr. David Hawthorne's message: There
was a beautiful and sincere message from the President
of IIPA, Mr. David Hawthorne and one only wished how
much nicer it would have been if Mr. David Hawthorne
as well as Mr. Jo Cohen[from France] were also with
us that morning. I could sense the commitment of Mr.
David Hawthorne to the SA and to Prof. Choudhry.
#4.Prof.Choudhry's overview of the SA in 2006:
He, briefly summed up the history of the SA and as is
so characteristic of his personality, even shared with
us the fact that in the early years of the SA, when
it was still unfolding, he even went wrong with some
of the predictions in the beginning. Here was an example
of a truly great Master of his discipline whose joy
came from his learning & sharing the same with his
fellow travellers, rather than from the pursuit of some
power & position. He shocked us by telling us that
some bright IT engineers needed no more than 16 hrs
to get a working knowledge of the SA, and this took
them only some two months, at the rate of two one hour
lectures per week.
An SA solution for a 'dacoits-problem': A telling
example of a difficult astrological problem was also
placed by the Prof, before us, in the course of his
talk: the palatial residence of a Jaipur royal family
was occupied by dacoits-it appears. The dacoits and
the Police also being hand in glove; the legal owners
of that royal premises, who were now ousted, also did
not have any
possibility of taking the case to the Police. All knew
that anyone who dared to walk into the dacoit infested
palatial residence, was walking into the jaws of death.
In these perilous circumstances, the head of the family
put the following question to the Prof. " Here
is my horoscope and those of my three sons. Which one
of us will have to go into the occupied palace, risking
our life, with the sole purpose of acquiring back the
property into our hands. As a great
astrologer, you can tell, who has to play the role of
the dare-devil?" Applying the SA sutras pertinent
to the variables of courage & longevity, Prof. Choudhry
was able to nominate the hero! Such is the power of
the SA-especially in the hands of its creator.
#5. SA solutions for 'Hard-problems': Other
mind-boggling questions put before Prof. Choudhry by
his clients were also shared. In one instance, the only
child of certain parents had to go in for an emergency
brain-surgery during the last week of March, 2006, near
about the day of the eclipse. The question was, whether
the emergency surgery could be performed on the eclipse
day and the situation was so bad that the surgeon was
not even prepared to give a guarantee that the operation
would restore the child to normalcy. The verdict of
the SA was that the operation could be performed on
the so-called dreaded day and that it would be successful.
In arriving at this verdict, Prof. Choudhry explained
how he had used the SA sutra pertinent to the orb of
maximum influence. There was a third example of a 'hard
problem' from the VA point of view, which was, whether
it would be propitious to buy a property worth $ 8,000,000
on the
eclipse day? The Prof revealed the predictive power
of the SA by mentioning each of these 'hard problems'
and how the SA shed such unambiguous light on how one
should actually proceed in such baffling matters in
which the stakes were high. Then he also gave an example
of a Libra Asdt chart in which the lord of the VH of
speculation was exactly afflicted by the MMP Me, in
the deadly sign Scorpio, through mutual aspect. The
individual in question, not heeding the warning of the
Prof, fell into misfortune when she lost $ 1,000,000
in a single day's speculative move.
#5. More on SA principles: Prof. V.K.
Choudhry stressed the importance of adhering to high
spiritual & moral principles- as an essential mandate
for all astrologers. The importance of the disciplined
performance of remedial measures was also driven home
& beautifully illustrated in the case of an individual,
who fled from home, leaving parents, wife & children
and returned back only after the wife had been performing
remedial measures for her own chart & the chart
of her husband, for a prolonged period of 4 yrs. Once
again the 'concealed power' of the SA remedial measures
was brought to the fore. In this connection he also
mentioned that while the Rahu remedial measures may
be applied to birds other than crows in foreign lands;
remedial measures for Ke involving stray dogs, hardly
had a reliable substitute in modern alien cultures.
#6. Three kinds of fevers: Coming to
the SA in the sphere of medical astrology, Prof. Choudhry
revealed the pattern of simplicity in all fevers and
said these were only of durations 3, 7 & 21 days
as they were caused by the Tr of the fiery planets the
Su, Ma & Ke respectively over the Asdt variables.
In the Tr of Ke if it were to become stationary, then
the '21 day fever' like chickenpox & typhoid would
suffer a prolongation with the onset of a relapse etc.
One was left
stunned by the simplicity of the SA insight.
#7.Prof.Choudhry on India: It invariably
happened that delegates took the discussions out of
the Conf room and with them for lunch & dinner,
since Prof. Choudhry was with us right through. The
light he threw on the future of India was very interesting.
When I asked him whether communism has a future in Indian
politics, his unambiguous reply was that at the center,
there isn't any promise of a substantial future, but
that the question of this ideology at the level of
the states, must be separately seen to. He drew attention
to the role of Me in the IT revolution that is currently
underway & added that so many planets in the IIIH
of communication & the placement of Me & Mo
therein is what has inclined the educated intelligentsia
to this Mercurial & intellectual vocations. In Prof.
Choudhry's view, India is indeed heading for a bright
future, since the Su & the Mo main periods now lie
in the offing. When somebody put the question for
remedial measures for the country, he maintained that
remedial measures will definitely help the country.
Light was also thrown on the whole question of duality,
as exemplified in the chart of the famous actor Sri.
Amitabh Bacchan.
#8. A very reassuring sutra: The discussions
on various charts continued outside the technical sessions
of the Conf, among the delegates themselves and also
with Prof. Choudhry throughout the course of the 4 or
5 days. Interestingly when asked whether there were
indeed a few 'enigmatic charts', in which the trouble
or misfortune was not straightaway visible in the Rasi
chart; he maintained that when SA light is thrown, no
chart can remain enigmatic & hide its patterns.
This was a very reassuring sutra!
#9. The SA family feeling: Apart from
having great joy in repeated discussions with Prof.
Choudhry, I had much pleasure either in discussing charts
or some other matters with Sri. Rajeshji, Smt. Kiranji,
then with all three American delegates & with the
astrologers: Sri. Pradeep Sethi, Sri. Kumar Juraney,
Dr(Mrs). Batra, Mr. & Dr(Mrs). Sethi, Sri Jagadesh
Sethi, Sri. Rajul Kaushik, Sri. Rajiv Jamwal, Sri. Aman
Deep Saini, Sri. Samarth and to a lesser extent
with the other delegates as well.
#10. The trip to Taj Mahal: was a lovely
experience, especially since Prof & his full family
joined us & the opportunity was opened to us once
more to learn directly in the course of ongoing satsangs
with the Prof. All Indian delegates as well as the delegates
from the US, had that SA 'family feeling' and the essence
of the Conf was the spirit of continuous learning, without
any barrier between the Prof, his family & the SA
astrologers. A sumptuous lunch hosted by
Prof. Choudhry and Smt.Kiranji, at Mughal Sheraton went
very well with the regal splendour of the Taj!
#11. SA sutras in Dharma and Moksha:
On the first day Prof. Choudhry asked me to give an
impromptu presentation of some 40 SA sutras, which I
had already gathered together as pertinent for the spiritual
life in the spheres of Dharma & Moksha. I began
the session with the latest SA sutra on 'Su-like' Hs
& 'Su-like' lords, which has appeared for the first
time in the latest edition of Predictive Techniques.
The IX, II & III Hs enjoy a 'Su-like' power, which
the other Hs do not possess. There was much discussion
on this sutra in the Conf and it came spectacularly
to life, when Prof. Choudhry commented on the chart
of the present US President, Mr. George Bush Jr. In
the chart of the President, the IIIH lord Me functions
like the Su & has been responsible for his Presidentship
& victory in political battles. The IIIH lord influences
the Asdt in this case & the Asdt lord is also placed
in the IIIH.
#12. SA in the spheres of Dharma & Moksha:
On the following day I gave a power point presentation
on the Systems Approach in the spheres of Dharma &
Moksha [Technical session]. Prof. Choudhry & Sri.
Rajeshji have been kind enough to post my PPP on the
SA website, for which I feel grateful. As this PPP is
now available on the website, and as the 40 odd SA sutras
have also come on the net, more need not be said about
them, in this bulletin. I have mainly tried to cover
the insights given by Prof. Choudhry at this Conf, but
what I have mentioned is
in many respects, incomplete.
#13. The important role of women in this Intl
Conf: Smt.Kiranji, Smt. Taneshaji, Dr(Mrs).
Batra, Dr(Mrs). Sethi, Ms. Sloane Johnson, Dr(Mrs) Prema[my
wife], Smt. Virmaniji, Smt.Renuji and other Hindu mothers
& spouses of the SA astrologers-their presence definitely
added a fullness & greater balance to the whole
Conf and in this family gathering we were witnessing
one of the best values of the ancient Hindu civilization,
which is respect for women in their various stations
in life, as a mother, as a wife, as a sister, and as
our spiritual-equals in life, etc.
#14. Gratitude to all !: Thank you Prof.
Choudhry, for your inimitable wisdom & knowledge,
thank you Smt. Kiranji for being such a strong support
& companion in the life of Prof. Choudhry; thank
you Sri. Rajeshji, for your pure heart, for your great
intelligence & selfless service. Thank you Smt.
Taneshaji for bringing new light & new life into
the Prof's family & we felt so happy
beholding the face of Sri. Vishnukant, who is destined
to carry forward the work of the Prof! We carry home
the blessings of profound learning & not just that,
we have been recipients of the magnanimous hospitality
of Prof. Choudhry & his entire family.
Thank you Dr. Shayn Smith, Dr. Jonathan Miller &
Ms. Sloane Johnson for being so friendly & for partaking
in the ways of our ancient Hindu culture. Thank you
for having been a part of our SA family. With so many
planets placed in the IV Sign of Cancer, India, may
never be able to free herself of her 'family centeredness'-and
a Cancer Asdt is saying all this, at that! Thank you
all SA
astrologers, for your gentle, open and friendly approach
and for a generous sharing of your knowledge, in which
there was never a necessity to play any games. Thank
you all for drinking the waters of SA knowledge and
wisdom, given to us by Prof. Choudhry. May he and his
family be always there for us, to show us the way. May
God be pleased with us all! Personally my wife Dr. Prema
and myself, we are grateful to our Masters Amma &
Bhagavan, for their blessings, as
well as the blessings of my other beloved Masters, Sri.Ramana
Maharshi and others. Because of their blessings, we
could have the extreme good fortune of coming to know
Prof. Choudhry, and his wonderful families: small and
large.
Kind Regards,
Sincerely yours
Sankara Bhagavadpada
